biography
Dina Shreikat (1989) is a Jordanian Palestinian that grew up in Amman. Coming from a family of tailors, she was naturally drawn to textile and fabric design. She received a diploma in textile design from the University of Gothenburg and continued her studies in fine art at the LUCA School of Arts in Brussels. Working mostly with oil paint, patterns and motifs are recurrent in her work. Integrating patterns from different cultures in unfamiliar settings makes these works intentionally off. Her practice raises questions about our preconceived notions of symbols that we take for granted as signifiers of specific cultural heritages without questioning their true origins.
